The work was com_x0002_posed in 1981. The world première took place on 25 January 1982 in Vienna (Konzerthaus, Anna Pfeifer and Klara Baranyi). The composition is, as it were, a ‘variation’, a carefree reminiscence of the atmosphere of old-time Vienna, an audible symbol of which is the slightly distorted motif from Johann Strauss The Blue Danube appearing in the piece’s fi nal phase.
