Tchaikovsky left us many favorite melodies, often drawn from Russian folk music. I arranged selections from his piano duet's 50 Russian Folk Songs (Cinquante chants populaires russes) for saxophone ensemble, collecting the following melodies in introduction and sonata form:
I Shall Come to Your Town (Пойду, подступлю под ваш город)
From the 1st measure
Under the Green Apple Tree (Под яблонью зеленою)
From measure 35, known from Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings Op.48
The Pine-Tree Swings by the Gate (У ворот сосна раскачалася)
From measure 72, used in Stravinsky's The Firebird
Young Maiden at the Feast (Я вечор млада во пиру была)
Measure 75, bass part, used in Stravinsky's Petrushka

On a different note, this is written for saxophone choir. I indicated tutti, la meta, a 2 and solo on various parts. It can be performed by 8 or 16 players with consideration of balance. Sopranino and bass saxophones are optional. Also, Tchaikovskiana could be combined with my other works, Espana for Saxophone Octet, Singaporiana for Saxophone Ensemble Based on Asian Tunes and La Danza di Terra for Saxophone Ensemble as a four movement suite featuring world music!
