2 harps and ensemble
SKU: LM.29712
Composed by Edith Canat de Chizy. Ensemble music. Contemporary. Score. Editions Henry Lemoine #29712. Published by Editions Henry Lemoine (LM.29712).
ISBN 9790230997126.
Compositions for two harps were mainly written for large symphonic ensembles in the 19th and early 20th centuries (Debussy, Ravel, Roussel). It is therefore rare to receive a commission for two harps and ensemble, as proposed to me by the Ars Nova ensemble. The purpose of the two harps in the orchestra was to amplify this instrument. Here, I opted for a contrapuntal style using various complementary playing techniques, thus creating a dialogue between the two harps.
Furthermore, each harp is independent and interacts with the other instruments in the ensemble. The title Spring corresponds to the period during which I wrote this piece, evoking the transition from winter to spring, from darkness to light, from stillness to proliferation, through work on tessitura, dynamics and movement.
