SOON – for Saxophone Quartet by Daisuke Shimizu

A three-part suite capturing the arc of a concert — from beginning to end.

The first movement was composed in 2001, followed by the second and third in 2004. Originally written for a sextet of string quartet, clarinet, and piano, the third movement has been extensively revised and newly arranged for saxophone quartet.
Structured as a suite of three contrasting movements, each represents a different moment in a concert:

  1. Start
  2. A Break
  3. End
The overarching title SOON reflects a sense of anticipation, with each movement depicting a distinct phase of the performance experience. This work also marks Shimizu’s first composition for saxophone quartet — a fresh and expressive addition to the chamber repertoire.
