This iconic song, written by Freddie Mercury and featured in "Glee", is Queen's only rock-gospel song. The lyrics plead for somebody to love after so much toil and hardship and so many sorrows in life. It was inspired by Aretha Franklin and has a loose canon style, with the choir answering phrases sung by the lead melody line.
This arrangement follows this structure for the most part, with a melody line and three answering "choir" lines. The melody line requires a big range (think Freddie!) and could be given to a single group of singers, or shared among different voices throughout the song, in groups or as solos. There are also more homophonic sections where everyone sings together, for example at the end for the big finish.
Although it is mostly quite brisk and rhythmic there is some textural contrast in a light and whimsical verse in the middle.
There are four parts, and it is a lively piece - I have catagorised it as "advanced intermediate" in difficulty.
