Kembang Suling (1996) for flute and marimba is one of Farr's earliest works and has become a standard in the repertoire for flute and percussion. Displaying Farr's love of Indonesian gamelan music, Kembang Suling contains flowing gamelan-inspired melodies that intertwine with the sound of the suling (Balinese bamboo flute) to form rich, colourful tapestries.

Good piece, not too difficult
This is a good work in 3 movements (each focusing on a specific Asian culture). The flute is clearly the lead voice in this ensemble, and the marimba provides a wonderful accompaniment. The work only requires a 4.3 octave marimba. It requires moderate four-mallet technique, and good chamber ensemble skills. The two parts fit together well, and isn't too difficult to put together.
