This flexible and accessible arrangement of In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg is adapted from my cello quartet version and is designed for cello choir and mixed-ability ensembles.

The well-known theme is shared across the upper parts, allowing players to develop ensemble awareness while engaging with one of the most recognisable pieces in the orchestral repertoire. The writing is clear and practical, making it suitable for school groups, cello ensembles, and community players.

To support inclusive performance, the arrangement includes additional optional parts: Cello 5 remains entirely in first position, while Cello 6 uses open strings only, enabling less experienced players to take part confidently. This makes the piece especially effective for mixed-ability groups where players are at different stages of development.

An optional piano part is also included to provide additional harmonic support in rehearsal or performance.

This arrangement works well for concerts, workshops, and teaching environments, offering an engaging introduction to Grieg’s dramatic style in a flexible and approachable format.
