This arrangement of the traditional melody Greensleeves has been adapted from my string quartet version and expanded into a practical string orchestra setting.
The core parts are written at an easy–intermediate level, with the melody shared between the upper and middle strings, allowing players to develop ensemble awareness and expressive phrasing while maintaining a balanced and cohesive sound.
To support less experienced players, the Violin 2 part is written entirely using open strings, providing a simple and accessible entry point into ensemble playing. In addition, the arrangement includes an optional Violin 3 part (doubling the Viola line), along with a straightforward Cello B and Double Bass part, helping to reinforce the lower textures and support ensemble balance.
These features make the arrangement especially suitable for mixed-ability groups, school orchestras, and developing ensembles, offering flexibility in scoring while maintaining a clear and effective musical result.
