This flexible arrangement of the traditional melody Greensleeves has been written for string quartet and is suitable for mixed-ability ensembles.
The Violin 1 and Viola (or optional Violin 3) parts carry the well-known melody, while the Cello provides a supportive bass line. These parts are written at an easy–intermediate level, introducing players to expressive phrasing and compound time in 6/8.
In contrast, the Violin 2 part is written entirely using open strings, making it accessible for very early-stage players and allowing them to participate confidently within the ensemble.
The inner part (Violin 3) doubles the viola line, offering flexibility in scoring and making the arrangement adaptable to a variety of group settings where viola players may not be available.
