Newly Revised by James & Susan McKeever. Edited by James McKeever and Susan McKeever. Piano Instruction. Instruction, Method, Russian. Softcover. 88 pages. Hal Leonard #194228. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.194228).
ISBN 9781495073014. UPC: 888680639938. 9.0x12.0x0.223 inches. Olga Conus & Leon Conus Newly Revised by James & Susan McKeever.
Fundamentals of Piano Technique was developed by Leon Conus (1871-1944) and Olga Conus (1890-1976) during many decades of teaching and performing, and through association with the most prominent Russian musicians of the time – including Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, and Medtner. The exercises in this method are concise and efficient, focusing on the elements of good playing: control, touch, nuance, and musicianship. This book can be used by students at all levels of development, and with all shapes and sizes of hands. The preparatory exercises allow students to begin using the book within their first year of lessons. A systematic approach allows the hands to develop gradually, avoiding dangerous tension or muscle damage. Topics include: preparatory exercises; extension exercises; five-finger exercises; flexibility of the thumb; trill exercises; scales & arpeggios; wrist development; double notes; and more.

This revised Russian Method is a gem for my students. The clear layout and systematic exercises, starting with preparatory work, make it accessible for beginners within their first year. It progressively builds technique, focusing on control and touch while emphasizing proper body mechanics to avoid tension. A solid foundation for any aspiring pianist!

Solid Technique Builder for Any Musician
While not a gig book with chord symbols or lead sheets, 'Fundamentals of Piano Technique' is invaluable. The extension and flexibility exercises directly translate to better chops and endurance for longer sets. It's concise and efficient, cutting straight to essential skills like scales and arpeggios. A great resource for maintaining and improving foundational technique.

Fundamentals of Piano Technique
Amazing book, especially the extension exercises. Greater extension leads to greater accuracy. I injured myself and this book is teaching me to play without strain. another plus.
