In all our desire, in our race to an unknown end,
In fighting to go where we are not,
We miss the dearest joy of our heart, the light of our eyes, the song of our lips.
It is not the attainments we miss, not the prestige, nor the wealth of passing things:
It is to see deep in the eyes of the person before us
The unspoken tenderness of their heart,
To hear their need for love, and its echo in our own soul,
To see the beauty of God in their very being,
To know awe, and the precious gift of their fleeting life;
