This book contains music exploring the jazz idiom. It emcompasses various modern styles - from blues and jazz to rock. Not only are the pieces great fun, but each contains different techniques and challenges which the student will encounter elsewhere in their piano playing. Essential fingering suggestions have been included. These should be carefully followed - along with the tempo indications - to ensure a smooth performance. A suggested drum style for each piece provides a steady beat for the piano/keyboard player to play along to.

Compositions:5 stars. Publication:3 stars. Enjoyed these pieces. Most were easier to play than expected (given 'intermediate' in the sub-title of the book). There is a variety of jazzy styles (most are not 'blues') and they sound quite 'full' in spite of the limited resources used. Their publication though could have been better. The finger numbers are tiny (smallest seen) - and some have been placed too close to other items. You may need to use your pencil. [The irony is that the book states that the suggested fingering should be carefully followed.] There are 12 pieces of music and all are 1&1/2 pages long. Each piece is followed by 1/2 a page of blank space, i e there is less music than you might expect from a 32 page book. The font size used for the music itself is quite small but isn't too small. Can't see why the publisher didn't use larger fonts - there is plenty of blank space to accommodate this!
