Composed by Frederick "Dave" Snider. Little Big Band Charts. Score and parts. Published by Walrus Music Publishing (WA.60195).Anvil Chorus is a straight-ahead hard swingin' chart (quarter note=240) rescored for mini-big band. Anvil Chorus was originally written by Giuseppe Verdi in 1853 as part of his opera La Traviata. During WWII arranger Jerry Grey penned it for Glenn Miller's Army Air Corps Band as a featue for drummer Ray McKinley. Anvil Chorus has everything you want in a chart: excitement, a fast-grooving tempo, lots of solos including the drums, a soli and tutti section, and a feel that makes you want to get up and dance. This chart is an excellent opener or closer. I have played this chart for over 25 years and it is one of those charts that is a crowd pleaser wherever and whenever you play it. Soloists: Trumpet, piano, tenor sax, and drums (and optional solos from the band if desired by the director). Instrumentations: 2 trumpets, 1 bone, A, T, B, P, B, G, and D. No doubles.
